Today's delicious recipe is in partnership with my friends at Sealand Quality Foods. Suppliers of premium quality meats delivered to your door! All opinions are my own.
You may have noticed I've made this Baked Mahi Mahi and the ever so popular Fish Fry recipes using their premium seafood. Today I've used the beef tips.
Let's talk about why and how to work with beef tips so you can make the most out of this delicious cut of beef!
WHAT ARE BEEF TIPS
Depending on where you buy the beef tips, you can expect them to be either beef Sirloin tips or in my case from Sealand Quality Foods, they were beef tenderloin tips.
Without a doubt the beef tenderloin is far more superior in taste and texture! However, the sirloin would work beautifully in this recipe as well.
How to Cook Beef Tips?
The best way to cook beef tips is either in a sauce (like we've done today) or to make them into steak bites. Check out my steak bites post and video for everything you need to make delicious steak bites!
If you're cooking a saucy beef tips recipe, you can make that with a simple seasoning and stock. However, I love an Asian beef tips and rice meal over the classic gravy! It's our family favorite!
How to Cook Beef Tips on the Stove
You can make this recipe on the stove or in your instant pot for an even quicker meal! Watch the video above or the detailed step by step instructions below.
For the stove top instructions, scroll down to the TIPS section. Also, you'll find detailed cooking times for the different cuts of beef tips and cooking method you select.
The bottom line for stove top cooking is simply adjusting cooking time. Also you'll need to bring the meat to a rigorous boil at first, and then covering your pan really well while dropping the heat to low.
A good dutch oven pan or heavy duty pot is ideal for stove top.
MAKE BEEF TIPS AND RICE
Depending on the cut of beef tips you bought, you'll need to adjust the cooking time. Details on the cooking times are in the TIPS section below.
Again, because this is Asian inspired, I Love serving the beef tips over rice. You may however serve them with noodles or ramen. Something like the Spicy Ramen Bowls recipe I have.
However, in my home, beef tips and rice Asian style are pure comfort food!
Ingredients for Beef Tips and Rice:
- Sealand Quality Food Beef Tips
- Rice vinegar
- Ketchup
- Brown Sugar
- Soy Sauce
- Fresh ginger
- Fresh garlic or garlic powder
- Spicy Chilli Paste (optional for a spice kick)
- Salt and pepper
In a large bowl, mix all the ingredients above with the beef tips until well coated. At this point you leave it to marinade for a few hours or even overnight in the fridge.
You can also cook it right away since the sauce is super flavorful and you won't miss out on hours of marinade.
Start with preheating your instant pot on the Sauté function. Do the same for stove top, make sure to start with medium high heat and get your pot really hot.
Add in sesame oil (or any neutral tasting oil) and add in the beef tips right away.
Make sure you don't add all the remaining sauce with it. Just remove the beef chunks and keep the extra sauce in the same bowl.
Allow the meat to sear and bubble on high heat for two minutes.
Now you'll reduce the heat on stove top and add in some water to tenderize the meat. You'll need to cook the meat on low (simmering) heat for 20 minutes (tenderloin) or 30 minutes (sirloin) for super tender tips.
For the instant pot, you'll set the pressure cook for 12 minutes (tenderloin) and 20 minutes (sirloin) after adding water as well.
To finish off the sauce. You'll need the remaining marinade sauce you have in the bowl, and to that, you'll add in a teaspoon of cornstarch.
A whisk is probably the best tool to make sure your cornstarch has completely dissolved.
If you don't have enough sauce (for example you've added it by accident to the pan), it's ok! You'll still however need to make the cornstarch sauce with a quarter cup of really cold water.
The cornstarch creates a thick satisfying sauce or gravy with the beef tips recipe. The trick however to make sure the cornstarch dissolves fully is to whisk into a cold liquid.
Now add the cornstarch mixture to the pot and bring to a boil for two minutes until the beef tips recipe is done. This is for the stove top.
To continue with the instant pot, you'll release the pressure when the time is up. And then switch to soup mode. Don't place the lid back on, just allow the mixture to boil.
At that point add in the cornstarch mixture and boil it for a couple of minutes until the sauce is ready.
Now you're ready to serve the beef tips and rice!
Sprinkle sesame seeds and cilantro over the plate, and add in your favorite veggies such as cucumber, avocados and peppers.
Serve right away and enjoy!
